Yesterday Was Fun.. But No Pics

It's snowing right now. Hard. I think snow is beautiful. I love watching falling snow while sitting inside under a blanket drinking hot chocolate or eating cookies. Actually, I could simply watch the falling snow anytime. It distracts me in class. I just think it gorgeous!

I hate snow when it's on the ground though. I hate ice. I hate slush. I hate slipping and falling. I hate fallen snow.

That is, unless I'm sledding in it. (I just can't stop going back and forth, can I?) We went sledding yesterday. "We" meaning my former roommate Kim invited me to go sledding with a bunch of people I didn't know. It's was loads of fun. When we first got to the dunes we went to park in this empty parking lot. Empty parking lot, covered with ice, three college kids.... who's NOT gonna do donuts!? Actually, though, donuts aren't quite as exhilirating as I'd always imagined them to be. What a bummer!

While sledding I learned that I need to get snowpants and maybe some boots. This realization came shortly after I lost feeling in my toes and butt cheeks (I sit in the snow a lot, okay?). Yeah, blue jeans and sneakers aren't so good for sledding in.

After sledding my other friend Kelly and I went to Fong's, this Chinese place on the other side of campus. When we walked in the door a little girl probably about 8 years old seated us. So cute. Total family restaurant. Kelly said one time she went there the server was wearing a baby on her stomach in that baby sack thing people wear.

After that Kelly took me to the store because I had to go shopping. Unfortunately, Walmart doesn't sell eggs. Can you believe it!? WalMart didn't have EGGS! That's like, one of the three essentials! Butter, milk, eggs. Everyone knows that!

When I got home from WalMart I was again invited to Kim's apt to watch "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" and eat pizza. Cute movie. I enjoyed it. Nothing incredible though.

Super fun day. I hope I have more Saturdays like that. The negative? I never finished my project that's due Monday. But it's cool, cuz all I need is the rough draft and it's an evening class so I can just print what I have and get credit. Yesterday was worth it.

I'm Not Mad... But Not Happy Either

You know those people in life who are so sweet and nice and genuine and perfect that you just want to hate them cuz they're so perfect, but you can't because they're so nice?

Yeah, I know one of those. And it's annoying me. A little. Except I can't be annoyed because she's too nice and sweet to be annoyed at.

Ugh.

Time To Celebrate!

It's 34 degrees outside! Fahrenheit! (or however you spell that word) That means above freezing!!!! Is somebody documenting this! It's like downright HOT out there right now!!!

I'm going outside!

I'm In Love! I'm In Love And I Don't Care Who Knows It!

MY first post on my brand spankin' new computer of awesomeness.

I really have nothing more to say. Other than the fact that I'm totally and completely in love with this computer.

I set my background so that it changes every ten minutes. To a different background! It's like my background is a screen saver. That's so awesome! I always get bored of my background, but this way... just... oh my gosh!

It's funny how it feels like some of the stuff with Windows 7 is similar to Apple computers. For example it has that bar across the top in the middle as well as the normal base options bar at the bottom.

My computer has a WEBCAM! I would take a picture of something and put it on here just for fun, but I don't actually have the time right now to do that. And the only thing I have to take a picture of is myself, and I guarantee you don't want to see that right now!

The end!

Oh yeah, and kudos to whoever can name the movie my post title came from!

Story Of The Fire

I recently realized while reading my comments that I never wrote the story to go along with the fire. I definitely need to write it because of hilarity. Not that others will think it was funny, but because I totally can't stop laughing about it.

Three nights ago (was it really that long ago?) John came over to our apartment. He sat on our couch and talked to me, Lizzy and eventually Alexis about our dietary habits. "What's your favorite food?" "Do you know how to cook?" "How often do you cook?" "What's your favorite thing to cook?" He was mostly railing Lizzy on this. Lizzy lives off of crackers and cheese with an occasional pepperoni to top it off. He was quite entertained by this and kept questioning her on why she didn't cook more.

This led to a loooong discussion on food and why Lizzy doesn't cook. She knows how, but just doesn't do it much. Well, John took off and literally minutes after he left we all started feeling hungry. It was about 7pm. Alexis had left. Lizzy and I went into the kitchen to start cooking and Erica was doing homework at the table.

I wanted to make my first quesadilla. Never made one before. I had come up with this idea to use my spaghetti sauce, cheese and corn to make a quesadilla. Mmmmmm! As I was shredding my cheese, Lizzy pulled out some frozen stuff and chicken. She asked if she could borrow my pan and some vegetable oil. No prob!

As I went to put my quesadilla on the heat, I looked over at Lizzy's creation. Let me stop here to point out that both of us were using the back burners. Our front burners have both been broken since the day we got here (yeah, we need to get on fixing that... but that's beside the point...). Anyway, back to the story.

As I was putting my quesadilla on the back right burner, Lizzy noticed that her back left burner was very very hot. Much hotter than she had meant to have it. As I turned to put my cheese away, I noticed her taking it off the back burner and putting it on the front burner to cool down. As I turned back to my quesadilla she was just getting ready to put her chicken in.

And that's where my memory turns into flashes. While the pan was still off the heat and on the front burner, a piece of chicken (or maybe even just the fat, I don't know) dropped into the pan and the flames suddenly shot up!

I could hear Erica screaming behind me. I heard screaming from myself. And Lizzy was standing there, completely frozen just staring at the two foot high flames.

Then the flames started on the back burner. Not just the pot was on fire anymore, the STOVETOP was on fire! And it was spreading! And Erica and I were just screaming and Lizzy was still standing there, frozen, although she managed to mutter the words (calmly, may I add) "Stop screaming."

I imagined our whole apartment in flames. Trying to decide how it would feel when we would all die. I heard a loud POP!* and closed my eyes.

And then I opened them. I was somehow standing in the living room, quesadilla in hand. Erica was rolling on the couch muttering, "Oh my gooooooosh!" And then she grabbed her computer and ran out the apartment calling behind her, "I'm out of here!"

Lizzy was still standing frozen in the kitchen but the pot was in the sink and there was white powder everywhere! (Someone later told us the white powder was baking soda, but something that put a fire that big out that quickly has to be more lethal that baking soda!)

I was inhaling the white powder and I could actually feel it through my nasal passage and coating the inside of my lungs. It tasted gross. It smelled gross. I kept coughing. The fire alarm went off at one point. I turned it off, I think cuz I was the only one who knew how to turn it off (yeah, fire alarms went off constantly at my house).

The powder was slowly settling and there was a pile of white powder on the stove. We decided we should go get the manager. It was after office hours, but we considered this a sort of emergency. What we thought the manager was gonna do, I don't know. I think it was just the idea of having someone else, older and wiser, there to talk to.

Lizzy didn't want to go over there alone, but we were also scared to leave the apartment in case the fire started again. We finally decided there was no way a fire would start again and went to the managers. There was no answer. We were both laughing this whole time.

As we walked back to my apartment I saw Elise next door to our apartment. Elise is awesome. We decided to go get her and see what she thought. We showed her the mess. She laughed. We all laughed. We asked her if this seemed important enough to go to the manager's personal apartment. We all decided that we should let them know.

As we went to leave our apartment, we were all hysterical with laughter, and I was in front. I opened the door and gasped in fright because David was standing right on our doorstep. I turned back to Elise and Lizzy and we all just kept laughing. David just stood there looking confused. "I guess you didn't hear me knock?" Yeah, awkward silence and it turned out he was looking for Erica. We told him she left screaming and he left, probably thinking we were all wackos.

The manager's still never answered. We went back home and decided we should start cleaning it up since the majority of the dust had settled. Lizzy called her aunt who told her to vacuum it up. But our vacuum doesn't have that sucker thingy. So we just used paper towels. A LOT of paper towels.

As we were cleaning it seemed that everyone in the world felt like dropping by. Erica had another friend come. This guy came by trying to sell us a starving student card. Oh, and I forgot to mention the group of girls huddled shamelessy around their window peering down at our apartment because they heard the screams and later, laughter. Yes, this whole night was filled with all kinds of laughter.

Now don't forget my quesadilla! I didn't. In my mind I knew that those metal things above the stove were for fires, so I took my quesadilla away asap so it didn't get covered in white crap. I put my quesadilla in the fridge after the fire. But I still wanted to eat it! Elise said I could make it at her apartment. I used her stove after we accomplished the majority of the cleaning of our stove. On my way walking back to my apartment, my hand got tired of holding my hot pan by the handle. So I brought my other hand up to rest the pan on my hand. Bad idea because the pan was hot off the stove.

This explains the three blisters and other burns on my right hand. Good thing I'm a lefty. And yeah, don't worry, the burns aren't that bad, but I do have a blister.

We opened up the stove and cleaned under it. The white powder seriously coated every single inch of the kitchen. It was such a mess. We took the whole stove apart and cleaned it. The next morning I found a nice layer of white powder all over my cereal boxes that I keep on top of the fridge. Groooooss!

By taking the stove apart, we accidentally put the burners out in the wrong places, so now it's the back two burners that don't work instead of the front two. That's handy. We filled out a maintenance request to get a new white powder popper thingy and we sent an email to the manager explaining what happened.

What a fun night! Pretty sure my adrenaline was rolling the whole rest of the night. I'm glad we're not dead. I'm glad we laughed so hard my sides hurt.

We told John the story the next day when he stopped by again. He was practically rolling on the floor laughing.

Hopefully we'll get another white powder poofer soon. Lizzy is too scared to use the stove anymore until we get one.

*I only heard one pop, and then it felt like two minutes later that the white powder mess exploded everywhere... but keep in mind my eyes were closed. Lizzy didn't hear any pop and Erica heard two pops.

A Little Balance In This World

On the one hand I'm freaking out and checking the clock every sixteen seconds just waiting for the FedEx truck to pull into the parking lot with my new laptop (yes, I know they don't come this late in the day, but a girl can hope!).

On the other hand, I want time to slow down as much as possible because I have a horribly gruesome Humanities exam to take tonight.

So my brain is in a really weird mode right now where every time I stare at the textbook, time speeds up, and every time I look out the window, it slows down again.

And you'd think I'd feel a bit more balanced. A bit more stable.

But no. This is me. I'm still freaking out.

Yikes

My apartment caught fire last night.

The end.

Last Week of Disney

These are pretty random because it's hard to put pics up on blogger. But all of these pictures were taken pretty much from Christmas Eve on. Fun times!

Driving home from church one day the traffic was totally unbelievable. Around Christmas in Orlando it's ridiculous. So after we were stopped on the road for a few minutes I thought, "Hey, as long as I'm in park and no one's moving... why not save a memory?"

I held an alligator. Not this one. But one exactly like it named Popeye. I never put the story up here... but it was freakin' AWESOME!!!

It's awesome at night after all the guests are gone, but the water show goes on always. So I get to stand there in the solitude watching the show and hearing the music blast! It's so cool! Well, I mean not total solitude, but it's pretty close!

Our cute little tree with our stockings. No chimney. But I'd say we decorated pretty darn well! The stockings were hung a little weird cuz my friends were freaked out we'd get in trouble if we poked holes in the walls. So they only used pre-existing holes. So funny!

I memorized every single country's flag!

As I left work that night (New Years morning... around 2am) I went to catch the bus home.

Check out this line!!! Here you see busses one and two. I was on the fourth one. It was insane! You can see the hats they gave us and we also got free food! It was a fantastic last night!

Kelly and I in the Land. We took a picture of ourselves...

And then we realized we were both wearing the same shirt! Dang, great minds think alike!

Me, Jean and Alyssa. Our.. well... at least my... final night at Image!

Me, Jean, Alyssa, and Marina. As we were walking across the park Jean was really into taking photos and for some we used my camera. I think it's so cute how Jean got Alyssa to do the peace sign. I think she thinks we think (follow that?) that's super cool or something. So funny! All the Asian kids do that in their photos. Jeans doing it in the previous one.

Me, Jean and Alyssa. In case you're wondering why Marina kept getting left out it's because she was one of the new kids who we still didn't know very well. We hadn't really bonded with her (although I think she's awesome! The more I got to know her the more I liked her) and she just offered to take the pictures. I felt bad so I made her be in the one before this one.

I drew this pic of Donald Duck!! I did!!! Really! And I was really excited about it too, until I looked at the 8 year old girl sitting next to me who totally showed me up. Lame....

Ahhh EPCOT. How I love you!!

The Living Seas. One of my three places in my location. Actually, I guess it's "The Seas with Nemo and Friends" now. This is the entrance to the ride. I only worked in the shop.

Kelly and I took pictures in the aquarium. It is so beautiful. I love it!

The Land. Another of my locations.

We put these signs up. People would come up to us, "Are you really out of tickets? What about us. We really wanted to go on this ride! It'll totally ruin our whole vacation if we don't get fastpasses." Yeah, sorry. You can still go on the ride. But in this case it was a three hours wait. Yeah, popular.

Figment. My main area of expertise. If you could call it that.

I found him.

My 3D glasses in Honey I Shrunk the Audience.

Kelly at work in HS with her light saber. You SELL that thing girl!!

Spectacle of the Dancing lights in Hollywood Studios Christmas Eve. This show is awesome. And you can wear 3D glasses that are supposed to make it better (we didn't really see a huge difference but... ya know...)

Kelly and Lis

My room. Day of packing, packing and more packing. Glad my roommate was gone.

My friend thought it would be cool to get a shot of me throwing my hat up in front of the castle. Except it was night. And this was the best shot we ended up with. When we got it, we had already been trying for so long we just said, "Eh, good enough." and gave up. Still, it works okay. You can kind o f see the hat barely in the frame on top.

On the plane ride back to Idaho I figured this little thing out. Here's how it's supposed to start (getting it into start position is hard enough!)

And pretty much two steps later you're here and ready for the final step.

Yep. Only three steps pretty much to solve. Lame right? It's actually really fun to play with though!

Don't You Hate It When...

You have a ridiculously important object that you know you absolutely can NOT lose in any way because it is so vitally important. So you find a special place to put it, just for that one special item, to make certain you don't lose it.

And then you forget where said special place is.

Yeah, I hate that too.

Why I Feel Well Balanced... and Classes and stuff

I slept for 11 hours last night. Ahhhh, it felt so stinkin' good!

Looks like this semester I'm going to be the messiest person in the apartment. My roommates are all super cleaners. Although I think it's had a good effect on me. I've actually been making my bed (ch, yeah, we'll see how long that continues..) Anyway, maybe it's just cuz it's the first week of school but our apartment is so clean you'd wonder if people even lived here.

So far all my classes seem fun and manageable. However, there are so many of them it's a lot to think about. I have so many different assignments for different classes due on different days that I'm freaking out every minute scared that a due date is gonna pass me by. I'm just going to have to be mega careful about putting every single thing in my planner. Unfortunately I learned yesterday that my planner isn't big enough to fit everything that I need to do. I'm going to have to come up with a better system. I feel like my classes this semester are requiring a lot more work and effort than any of my other classes have before. Maybe it's cuz I'm a Junior and I'm taking upper level classes. Or maybe I'm just getting dumber. Hmmm...

My roommates all seem cool. It's only the second day so I really don't know them that well yet. One's a first semester freshman (my room roommate) and the other two are sophomores who knew each other pretty much since day one, I think. But do you get what that means? For the first time in history I'm the oldest one in this apartment. I've always been the youngest and suddenly I'm bumped up to oldest.

That's really no big deal at all... I just thought I share it with you. It'll be a weird change. Actually, things will probably just stay the same. Hmmm...

I haven't really met anyone from the ward yet; although I've seen some people around and did the whole smile and wave, "How are you?" thing. It's been fun.

I'm definitely not loving this disgusting, horrible weather. I'm actually wondering how I've survived it the past two years and I find myself wondering daily why anyone would want to live here! The snow is disgusting, the mountains are gray and gross, the cold eats my face alive, just the feeling of being outside makes me want to cry and I have to pay attention to every step I take when I'm out there telling myself, "Be careful, because this next step could be my last." Stupid ice.

Kay I'm done. I like school. I like my classes. My teachers all seem fun so far (although it's only the second day.. things could totally change). And, most importantly, there are super cute, available, decent guys everywhere. :)

First Day

I had no idea how much I missed Rexburg but when I stepped off the bus yesterday afternoon I realized it. I certainly did NOT miss the weather though. Icky snow that turns black and brown and the nasty slush that gets EVERYWHERE and the ugly overcast sky ALL the time... blech! But I missed college and friends and living in a place with... well... I can't say less rules, but I have different freedoms here that I didn't have at Disney.

Anyway, today was the first day of classes. I've only been to 2 so far. Spanish was this morning. The teacher didn't speak any English for the first ten minutes of class and I wished I could have taken a picture of all the students faces as he rambled along in Spanish. I guess that's what I get for taking the advanced beginners course instead of just beginners. Fortunately, I was able to follow along with every word he said (he spoke slowly and clearly and kept the conversation very simple). I even raised my hand and responded to one of the questions in Spanish! Unfortunately, I had to pay attention ridiculously hard and as I left class my brain hurt. Yeah, I now understand the feeling of a brain actually hurting without a headache. Ugh!

Next was American Humanities. One of the girls I did the study abroad tour with last year is in my class so that was nice. I was a little nervous for this class because I heard some bad stuff about the teacher. So far he seems great. He's funny and knows what he's talking about... I am a little worried though about assignments. He's not very clear about what's due when. For example on the syllabus it says "CR #1" as due for tomorrow before 9pm. But he didn't really explain what that was and we don't have class tomorrow. Fortunately, someone raised their hand and asked and he said he'd post something on ILearn and we had to respond to it and our groups. Anyway, I'm pretty sure I understand everything I have to do and all, he's just not very clear about getting it across. As of next week at this time I'll have already memorized one piece of American literature and taken a music quiz.

Anyway, I have a TON to do. I want to write more but I have to be somewhere at 2 and then my next class is at 3:45 and I still have to exchange one of my books and somehow make a grocery list and get to the store today. I'm still in stress mode. Ah well. It'll be over soon.
